According to the American Society of Nutrition, green tea contains catechins—antioxidant compounds that strive to encourage abdominal fat loss when paired with proper exercise.
The natural compounds in green tea are a sub-class of flavonoids or better known as antioxidant elements. Since green tea is rich in catechins, it helps minimize the chances of experiencing various diseases, such as Alzheimer’s, specific cancers, and other cardiovascular and oral health problems.
Also, studies also show that drinking green tea to help lose weight is possible. Based on findings published in The Journal of Nutrition, when people consume 625 mg of green tea with catechins, it can encourage fat loss and better triglyceride levels. However, as effective as these are, don’t forget that your lifestyle choices can also impact the outcome of drinking green tea!
Keep reading below to find out how drinking green tea regularly affects your health.
Initiating a Double-Blind Study
A study published at the National Library of Medicine had a group of researchers handling a test with over a hundred adults aged twenty-one to sixty-five years old. All the contributors involved were non-Hispanic white and were considered healthy, did standard physical exercises, and maintained a Body Mass Index (BMI) of 32kg/m².
Half of the group consisting of male participants had a waist circumference above 90 cm, while the rest were women, all of whom had a waist circumference of over 87 cm. Their cholesterol levels were above 5.2 mmol/L.
The contributors were randomly chosen to acquire 500 ml of a beverage with 625 mg catechins and a controlled beverage with caffeine similar to the catechin drink’s caffeine content. Both drinks had water, sodium chloride, artificial citrus flavoring, erythritol, glucose, and sucralose.
Everyone was told not to consume over two caffeinated beverages every day, involving the study product. The test lasted for three months. As expected, the participants drank one serving of their assigned beverage each day, with or without food.
As they went along with their typical energy consumption, three-day diet records were documented on the sixth and the twelfth week. During the study, each subject dedicated about one hundred-eighty minutes of moderate-intensity workouts and at least three exercise sessions each week.
The Results of the Study for Targeting Weight Loss
Once the study reached its end, the catechin group’s subjects lost more body weight than the people belonging to the control group. However, regarding their waist circumference and fat mass, there were no major differences between the two groups.
Besides that, the changes with the total abdominal fat area and abdominal subcutaneous fat area were more prominent with the catechin group as compared to the control group. In conclusion, the study’s findings show that people drinking beverages with green tea catechins may improve their exercise-induced weight loss to target abdominal fat!
Consuming detox tea for weight loss can also boost the circulation of Free Fatty Acids (FFA) and triglycerides levels. But to remain on the safe side, more research is necessary to clear out the mechanisms involved in producing the effects.
Conclusion
If you drink green tea for detox regularly, other than the possibility of experiencing a reduction in your weight, you can rehydrate and fill your body with essential antioxidants and nutrients. However, remember that the best way to achieve the ideal body weight you want while consuming fat-burning tea is by prioritizing healthy lifestyle changes.
